About New Life For All

The New LIfe For All Movement

The New Life For All movement in Nigeria began in 1963, when the representatives of Ten (10) Churches and Missions led by Rev. Gerald O. Swank meet. This singular meeting took a decision to work together to take the Gospel to every person within Plateau and Zaria province which has now expanded to Twenty 23 State of the Federation.

Today, New Life For All is fully recognized by the Federal Republic of Nigeria as it has been registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Headquarters Abuja. It has a Board of Trustee, a General Council, Executive Council in place and each of the States has its own Leaders in place.

The New Life For All is Financed by the Denominations Namely; ECWA, COCIN, Baptist, UMCA, UMCN, CRC-N, EYN, ERCC, HEKAN, LCCN, ANGLICAN, METHODIST, ASSEMBLIES OF GOD and RCCN. With demotions that may come from other spirited individuals or organizations.

The delegates therefore clarified the purpose of the Movement by first of all identifying and pointing out what it was Not.

  • It was not a new missionary society or merely a mission project
  • It was not a denomination nor did it seek to start one
  • It was not a movement for Church unity in the ecumenical sense.
  • It was not seeking to tell others how they ought to evangelize, implying that they did not know.
  • It would not depend upon the programme itself for success but upon the Holy Spirit of God who was the Lord of the Harvest.

Having settled on what the Movement was not, the delegates then drew out a tentative statement of what the Movement objectives were: –

  • The Movement was Biblical, based on the Great Commission as recorded in Mark 16:18.
  • The Movement was to be thoroughly indigenous. Missionary involvement would be minimal. The real work of evangelism would be done by Nigerians and the control left in the hands of the local Church.
  • It was to be simple and inexpensive. Literature would be used and therefore funds would be needed, but the use of expensive equipment would be discouraged.
  • It was to be a continuing Movement. Long after the initial thrust was past, it was expected that the Church would carry on the work of evangelism on its own. Even if the distinctive name of the Movement died out, the leaders would be more than satisfied.

 A NAME FOR THE MOVEMENT

Having deliberated, and agreed on the general principles set out, the case for a name for the Movement came up. According to Rev. Gerald Swank, the name was not to be taken lightly chosen. The delegates felt that the name, Evangelism-In-Depth was not indigenous to Africa, nor did it accurately describe the task at hand. They wanted a name that would not offend Muslims or other non-Christians and yet, one that would have a salvation meaning, expressing the concept of total evangelization; catch and sustain the interest and attention of the non-Christian population. The Baptists delegation then suggested the adoption of their Baptist Campaign in Japan which was NEW LIFE FOR YOU; the meeting jumped at this name but with a slight modification to NEW LIFE FOR ALL (NLFA). Since the Movement was to be distinctly Nigerian, they found the name very easy to translate into the major language of Northern Nigeria, Hausa – SABON RAI DON KOWA (SRDK)

New Life For All is inter-denominational and Evangelical, believing in the following fundamental doctrines of the Bible.

  1. GOD: There is one God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19; Deut.6:4; 1 Peter 1:2).
  2. SCRITURE: In the Divine authority and plenary inspiration of the Word of God, the Bible as originally given (2 Tim.3:16).
  3. MAN: In the fallen nature of man and his need of regeneration by the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ (Rom.3:23; Titus 3:5-6).
  4. JESUS CHRIST: In the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His death and bloodshed for our sins, His bodily resurrection from the dead for our justification.  His ascension to heaven and the expectation of His personal return to reign in power and glory (Luke 1:26, 35; 1 Cor.15:3, 4; 1 Thess.1:7-8).
  5. HOLY SPRIRT: The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead.  He is the one who convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8-12) and regenerates a human being in a born-again experience (John 3:3-7; 1:12-13).  He indwells, guides, teaches and empowers Christians for a living and services to the glory of God (Rom.8:9, 11, 15; 1 Cor.12:13; John 16:13-14; Act 1:8).
  6. SALVATION: Salvation the free gift of the grace of God based on the shed blood, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ as a full atonement for the sin of the World.  This salvation is received by any individual only by repentance and faith in the atonement in Christ leading to forgiveness of sin and eternal life (Luke 24:47; 1 Cor.15:1-4; Act 4:12)
  7. That it is the responsibility of every and all believers to bear witness of Christ salvation to all mankind by a godly life and public testimony in the power of the Holy Spirit in obedience to the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus (Act 1:8; Matt. 10:32-33; 28:18-20; 5:16).
  8. THE BLESSED HOPE: The hope of the Church is the personal, sure second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and the rapture of the believers both living and dead to be rewarded by Him and be with Him forever (1 Thess.4:13-18; 2 Tit.2:11-14; 1:15:15; 2 Cor.5:10).
  9. THE RESURRECTION AND FINAL JUDGEMENT: All the dead will eventually resurrect bodily at the end of times, the believers into everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, the unbelievers into judgment and everlasting conscious punishment in hell (John 11:25-26; Luke 16:19-26, 23:42; 1 Cor.15:20-22; 2 Cor. 5:8; 1 Thess.1:7-9; Rev.20:11-15).
